Day Five: The Bridge
Scriptures: Isaiah 40:31, Numbers 23:19, Ephesians 3:20, Romans 8:28, Isaiah 60:22, Romans 8:38-39, Romans 15:13
What do you do when it seems all hope is lost? How do you find a reason to rejoice when you feel attacked and shattered? How do you drown out the doubt? Remember that God is your Source of hope, joy and peace.
The bridge of a song is where a writer says the thoughts that haven't been addressed yet. For me, that meant talking about my intentions in addition to waiting on God. I'm not just waiting. I'm actively waiting: reading, praying, listening, seeking. I'm holding on to hope. I'm not holding on desperately, but expectantly. I'm holding on to God's Promises. And, God cannot lie (Numbers 23:19). So, I can expect to see His Promises fulfilled. Not only can I expect His Promises to be fulfilled, but they will exceed my wildest imagination (Ephesians 3:20)!
As I reflected on the hope I have in Jesus, the Holy Spirit gave me this acronym to help me remember that hope in times of discouragement and disappointment, when I feel shaken or shattered, when I feel attacked or anxious.
HOPE
Holding
Onto
Promises
Expectantly
I’m holding on
To promises expectantly
When I am concerned about my relationship status, when I feel like I'm running out of time to become a mom, when I am overwhelmed by whether or not I'm doing enough with the gifts God has given me, I hold on to His Promises.
When I put my hope in You
I rise above with eagle’s wings
This is not even close to a full list of promises. The Bible has so many promises to encourage and uplift us. I encourage you to find some promises of God that speak life to you. I know when I press in to the promises, pray these promises, persevere with these promises in mind, I feel lighter. I feel like I could float on air! I feel like I can fly as high as an eagle. That is what Isaiah is encouraging us to do in chapter 40.
No matter how hopeless the situation seems, we serve a God of Hope, Who cannot and will not fail! Wait expectantly on God and experience new strength! Strength to soar!!!
I'll leave you with the words of Paul because I couldn't say it any better…
I pray that God, the Source of Hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in Him. Then, you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Romans 15:13
Lord, as we wait on You and find our hope in You, replenish our supply of grace each day, renew our strength and refresh our souls. We trust You and You alone! In the Powerful and Righteous Name of Jesus, we pray, Amen!
